Awards, Boards and Other Deadlines
It's that time of year again, when deadlines loom for participation in a number of your association's activities:
- Notices regarding your member dues and contact updates have been distributed, and for the first time can now be completed online.
- Nominations for the BCLTA Awards are now open. The winners will be announced and presented at the awards luncheon during the BC Library Conference on May 10.
- The BCLTA Governance Survey has been distributed and we ask for participation from all library board chairs to complete this very brief questionnaire.
- And last but not least -- please consider running for one of the open seats on the BCLTA board of directors. We welcome all trustees interested in participating in the many areas of activity we have planned over the next two years.
—Paul Tutsch, President, BCLTA
Member Dues and Contact Updates
As of February 1, a new fiscal year has begun for your association. Membership dues invoices, including a contact update request form, have been emailed to each library board chair, with a copy to the respective chief librarian. Please submit your updates and payment by March 4.
Both contact updates and invoice payment can now be made online by clicking on the link in your emailed notice (or entering the link into your browser). If you have any questions about online payment, your dues, or how to update your library's contact information, please contact us at email@example.com.
Annual Awards Nominations
Is there a trustee on your Board or someone associated with your library whose service and commitment is truly "above and beyond"? Do you know a trustee who has made a real difference to library services in your region or at the provincial level? BCLTA is currently accepting applications for three awards for outstanding library trustees and library supporters.
The deadline for 2013 awards nominations is March 30.

We are looking for trustees who ideally have another 3-5 years of eligibility on their local library board, are interested in learning how other library boards operate, and enjoy working with like-minded trustees.
The deadline for nominations is March 30.

BCLTA Governance Survey
In 2009 and 2011, with financial support from the Ministry of Education, the BCLTA conducted surveys of existing and required infrastructure needs of BC public libraries.
The 2013 survey has been emailed to all library boards, with a new focus on a library board’s fundamental responsibilities for governance. Results from this bi-annual survey will be shared with all libraries, both on our website and at the annual BC Library Conference in May.
The deadline for chairs to complete the survey is February 25.
