Annual Awards Nominations due April 15!

Is there a trustee on your Board or someone associated with your library whose service and commitment is truly "above and beyond"? Do you know a trustee who has made a real difference to library services in your region or at the provincial level? BCLTA is currently accepting applications for three awards for outstanding library trustees and library supporters.

The NEW deadline for 2015 awards nominations is April 15, 2015.

Call for Nominations: BCLTA Board

Nominations for positions on the BCLTA board of directors are now open. This year, there are six, two-year terms and one, one-year term available.

We are looking for trustees who ideally have at least another 3-5 years of eligibility on their local library board, are interested in learning how other library boards operate, and enjoy working with like-minded trustees.

The deadline for nominations is April 30.

BCLTA Conference 2015 - Register Now

Relationships in Governance:  Common Ground, Common Purpose

This year's BCLTA conference is entitled "Relationships in Governance: Common Ground, Common Purpose" and will be held on Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23 at the Richmond Public Library and at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, immediately following the BC Library Association's conference May 20 - 22.  

The deadline for conference registration is May 8, 2015, however you are strongly encouraged to book your hotel room asap as space at the discounted price is limited.

Trustee Education Program (TOP)

The Trustee Orientation Program (TOP) is an informative, interactive workshop offering a comprehensive look at the roles and responsibilities of library trustees in British Columbia. The program is driven by experienced trainers who deliver sessions throughout BC. 

Please contact us if you are interested in hosting a TOP session in your community.

The following sessions have been confirmed for 2015 so far, and are open for registration:

  • May 2 (Trail Public Library)
  • May 22 (Richmond Public Library - Brighouse (Main Branch) - part of 2015 BCLTA Conference
  • May 30 (Cranbrook Public Library)
  • May 31 (Prince George Civic Centre) - part of Beyond Hope Conference in Prince George

We are grateful to the Libraries Branch, Ministry of Education, whose financial support has allowed us to keep registration costs as low as possible.

BC Library Association Conference

This year’s BCLA conference is being held in Richmond May 20 - 22, immediately preceding the BCLTA's annual conference.  The BCLA's theme is Creative Communities. The theme focuses us on the power of creativity in both the library and the world around us. It emphasizes how we use creativity to seek new ways to collaborate with and serve both existing and new communities. The theme Creative Communities will bring us together to highlight and reflect on our practices and profession.

Beyond Hope Conference in Prince George

Prince George Public Library is proud to host the Beyond Hope Conference from May 31st to June 2nd.  The theme is “Libraries are Forever” – a nod to the Prince George Library’s 60th anniversary as a municipal library and in recognition of the value and the enduring contributions of libraries to their communities. 

The Conference provides an affordable and geographically accessible professional development opportunity for library staff and trustees in the north, including a BCLTA Trustee Orientation Program offered on Sunday, May 31.  For more information or to register please visit:  http://beyondhope2015.pgpl.ca
