In March of this year, BC public library trustees and library directors were asked for their input and direction regarding a possible workshop focused on building and strengthening BC public library governance relationships with local municipal, regional, and First Nation governments.
The BCLTA “Governance and Relationship Building” workshops are a direct result of that input and direction. The workshops are for trustees, library directors, and their invited guests.

Guest Speakers
For the June 4th workshop in Vancouver we will hear from:
Commissioner Stuart Mackinnon, Chair of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and member of the Vancouver Public Library Board, who will speak to reconciliation and the Stanley Park Intergovernmental Committee
Councillor Nadine Nakagawa from New Westminster, Councillor Pete Fry from Vancouver, and Councillor Megan Curren from the District of North Vancouver. The Councillors will share with us what drew them to become involved in local government, the goals and priorities of their communities, their role in strengthening the relationship between the library and the city, and their thoughts on the impact of the library in their community.
Jehan Casey, Director of the First Nations Public Service Secretariat (FNPSS) who will speak to the work and priorities of the FNPSS and their membership. Ginger Gosnell-Myers, a Fellow with the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue with a focus on decolonization and urban Indigenous planning, will be joining us to deliver the opening keynote for our day of learning. Ginger has received many awards and national recognition for her work as the City of Vancouver’s first Indigenous Relations Manager and for her groundbreaking work on the Environics Institute’s Urban Aboriginal People’s Study. For BCLTA in-person workshops participants are expected to adhere to public health restrictions and to the health protocols of the venue provider. As well, we ask that participants be responsible and considerate in being aware of their health and well-being and the health and well-being of other participants.
